city of ashes. by for the love of trousers on Flickr.

Two and a half years ago my family and I evacuated our home because this fire started in the mountains of La Canada and was getting way too close to our home and many other neighborhoods.  Probably the scariest thing I’ve had to go through, we’d walk up our street and just 50 feet away we could see the fire on the mountain.  I remember driving the next morning to school and the smoke was as thick as fog but was a dirty orange color.  Everything turned out fine, though now the forest is all burnt and the mountains are still brown. No homes were damaged, but the worst was the rain that caused terrible mudslides just a few months later.  Then, many homes got completely ruined.  At least now all the ash and mud and dirt from the fire are gone.
